Biography

Biography

I grew up in a Midwest family of nine children, and spent my summers teaching and coaching swimming. Growing up with so many siblings, I learned a lot about “getting along”, nurturing a sense of self, and developing personal responsibility. I chose to major in social work in college. I knew Ann Kloos in the mountains that I wanted to help individuals and families to develop their full potential, prevent dysfunction, and better enrich their lives.

I spent a lot of my twenties and early thirties majoring in the field of “life experience”. I worked in many different settings from hospitals and restaurants to boarding schools and ski resorts. I learned a lot of different skills and worked for and with a wide variety of people. I chose to return to school to obtain a Masters in Social Work, so I could better pursue a career in therapy.

I chose a career in therapy because through my life experiences, I learned that we, as individuals, have three basic relationships: those with ourselves, those with our significant others, and those with our community. We each try to evolve and nurture these relationships over time to make them healthy and productive. When we take good care of our relationships with ourselves, we have a better chance of creating healthy relationships with our significant others and our community. Therapy is a crucial tool in helping to mend broken relationships and in developing new ones.

I moved to Boulder in 1989 and opened a practice in 1995. I spend much of my free time hiking and back- country skiing. I continue to work in the community on a part-time basis while maintaining my private practice. This gives me the opportunity to work with adolescents and adults in both In-patient and Outpatient settings. I specialize in helping people deal with major mood disorders, difficult transitions, harmful repetitive patterns, addiction and trauma. I am eager to work with anyone who wishes to evolve and explore his or her full potential in present relationships.

I have a passion for my work and feel very fortunate to love where I live, work at what I love, and “live” what I do.
